RTE 35 kVA standby generator: automatic switchover in the event of a power failure explained in the video

Andreas Tendyck

The problem: If the power goes out, cooling systems, milking parlors, servers, or production lines come to a standstill. An emergency generator is only useful if it starts automatically in an emergency – no one is going to be standing there at three in the morning to pull the starter cord.

The generator in the video

Shown here is the RTE 35 kVA – a soundproofed, water-cooled diesel generator with a Ricardo engine. The most important feature is not its power, but the genset controller with an ATS module.

How the automatic transfer switch works

The controller constantly monitors your mains power. If it fails, the generator starts automatically, takes over the power supply within a few seconds, and switches the load. When the mains power returns, the system synchronizes and switches back in a controlled manner – without any manual intervention. In manual mode, you can start the generator yourself when needed, for instance, during scheduled maintenance shutdowns.

Key data

  • 35 kVA / 28 kW continuous output, 400 V / 50.5 A
  • 72-liter tank, up to 8.5 hours at 75% load, consumption approx. 8.5 l/h
  • 3 × 16 A (230 V) and 1 × 32 A (400 V) outlets
  • Approx. 70 dB(A) at 7 m – comparable to a busy restaurant; check local noise control regulations if used near residential areas

Is 28 kW enough for my business?

This depends less on the total of the nameplate ratings than on the starting currents of the motors – a cooling system draws a multiple of its nominal power when starting up. There is a power calculator on the product page where you can enter your devices. It accounts for starting currents and suggests the appropriate kVA class. The RTE series ranges from 25 to 150 kVA.

Ready for use upon delivery

On request, we can perform the initial commissioning before shipping: oil, coolant, and about 30 liters of fuel are filled at our facility in Kempen, the idle speed is set, and the generator is tested under load and delivered with a test report. All you have to do is connect and start it.
